Dr Oz: Rice Water Face Wash for Age Spots

Shalini told Dr Oz that women in Korea have used rice water face wash to get rid of age spots for centuries. If you have age spots, sunspots or struggle with hyperpigmentation, you don’t have to spend a fortune on skin-correcting or lightening serums. Korean women discovered that after soaking rice to ready it for cooking, they used the starchy, milky water to wash their face. They simply dipped a washcloth into the water and applied it directly to their skin.

Rice is high in PABA, ferullic acid and allantoin, which are all high in antioxidants, and have natural anti-inflammatory and skin-protecting properties. The result is a soft dewy complexion and, over time, a reduction in the appearance of dark spots.

Rice Water Face Wash for Age Spots Recipe:

• 1 cup: premium rice
• 2 cups: water

Wash the rice and then strain the rice. Wash your face by dipping a wash cloth into the milky colored water and apply directly to your skin in a gentle circular motion. Do this once a week and within a month, dark spots will fade.

Dr Oz: Okra Face Mask for Wrinkles

To get rid of wrinkles, women in Zimbabwe have used the Okra face mask for years. Women in Zimbabwe are all about hydrating and protecting their skin. And they do so with okra. Try this exotic vegetable mask to hydrate your dry skin:

Dr Oz: Jacqueline’s Okra Hydrating Mask

Take a handful of fresh okra and boil until soft. Let cool. Mash it up, into a slimy consistency, and apply it to the face. Let it sit on your skin for 5 – 20 minutes and rinse. Okra contains vitamin A and E and plumps up the skin. Your skin will feel quenched and smooth.

Dr Oz: Chick Pea Flour Paste Facial

Indian women make their skin radiant on their special day with a traditional mixture of chickpea flour (absorbs oil), turmeric (a great anti-inflammatory and antiseptic), and almond oil (talk about moisture!). Dr Oz: Indian Bridal Glow Mask Recipe:

• 1 cup chickpea flour
• 3 tablespoons of turmeric (powdered form)
• Almond oil (enough to form a paste)

Mix into a paste. Apply to the face and body, and let sit for a few minutes. Remove by rubbing the mixture off with your hands. This motion will add to the exfoliation process and also helps with the removal of fine facial hair, better known as pesky peach fuzz. Wash the rest of the mixture off and enjoy fabulous baby soft skin! I personally use this mask once a week.

• 1 cup crushed grapes (I think red grapes with seeds are best)

Mix both ingredients into a paste and apply directly on face as a mask and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse off.

Dr Oz: Boiled Milk for softer skin on your face

Women in the Dominican Republic swear by the film on the top of boiled milk for softening their face. Boil milk and let it sit. When it cools, it creates a soft film on the top. Peel the film off by dabbing your finger into it (it’s sticky); mix gently with a little salt and rub on your face. This works as the perfect skin softener. The milk’s lactic acid is a natural exfoliant. The salt gives it a little grit so you’ll be well on your way toward glowing skin.

Dr Oz: Sandalwood Oil Spray

Dr Oz says sandalwood oil is great for the mind. Try mixing in a few drops of sandalwood oil into a spray bottle of water. Spritz yourself to help balance your mind.

Dr Oz: Lemon Grass Oil

Looking to help with inflammation? You’re in luck! Doctor Oz says to add a drop or two of lemon grass oil to water or tea. Lemon grass oil also increases urine flow.

Dr Oz: Bergamot Oil

For a healthy heart, Dr Oz suggested bergamot oil. For a calm, soothing effect, try adding a few drops of bergamot oil to your bath in the evenings.

Lavender Oil – Apply 1 – 2 Drop of Lavender Essential Oil to the bottom of each foot and message in before bed or better yet, have your partner massage the oil on the bottom of you feet before bed. It will help you get a peaceful night of rest. Don’t wash your hands after and place them a few inches from your face and enjoy the lavender scent as you drift off to sleep. The only thing you want to be careful with as with all essential oils, is to not touch your eye areas. If you rub your eyes a lot, then you should wash your hands after applying oils to your skin.

Jasmine Oil – Add 1 drop to your Moisturizer. It will help boost your mood, regenerate your skin, soften fine lines, fade skin imperfections and leave you with beautiful glowing skin all day long.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil – this is one of my all-time favorites. I have a lot of allergy and sinus problems, but one drop of Eucalyptus Oil rubbed on my upper lip area (not on my lips) and I breath better for hours.

‘Sensitive skin care’ is governed by a few basic rules. However, even before we delve into the rules for sensitive skin care, it’s important to understand what a sensitive skin is. Sensitive skin is one which is unable to tolerate any unfavourable conditions (environmental/other), and which easily gets irritated on contact with foreign materials (including skin care products). For this reason, some products are especially labelled as sensitive skin care products. The degree of sensitivity can however vary from person to person (and depending on that, the sensitive skin care procedures vary too).

Generally, all skin types respond negatively to detergents and other chemical based products. However, the damage starts generally beyond a defined threshold (or tolerance level). This tolerance level is very low for sensitive skin types, leading to skin getting damaged very easily and quickly. Sensitive skin care products either avoid the potential irritants or keep them at very low concentrations.

Here are a few tips for sensitive skin care:
* Use sensitive skin care products only (i.e. the products that are marked for sensitive skin care only). Also, check the instructions/ notes on the product to see if there are specific restrictions/warnings associated with the product).

* Even within the range of sensitive skin care products, choose the one that has minimum preservatives, colourings and other additives

* Do not use toners. Most of them are alcohol based and are not recommended for sensitive skin.

* Wear protective gloves when doing laundry or other chemical based cleaning. If you are allergic to rubber, you can wear cotton gloves below the rubber ones.

* Another important tip for ‘sensitive skin care’ is to avoid excessive exposure to sun. Apply sunscreen lotion before getting out in the sun.

* Avoiding exposure to dust and other pollutants is also important for sensitive skin care. So, cover yourself adequately before going out.

* Use hypoallergenic, noncomedogenic moisturizer as a sensitive skin care product (if there is none specifically labelled as a sensitive skin care product)

* Use soap-free and alcohol free cleansers. Cleanse your face whenever you return from spending time out doors.

* Do not scrub or exfoliate too hard. It can cause reddishness and even inflammation.

* Do not leave the makeup on for too long. Use hypoallergenic makeup- removers.

So, sensitive skin care is very different from the normal skin care. Sensitive skin care is more about being careful with your skin (both in terms of sensitive skin care products and protection against environments atrocities on skin).

Talking about skin care, ‘facial skin care’ seems to top the chart. There are loads of facial skin care products available in the market. The most common facial skin care products are the ones that are used as part of daily routine. These include things like cleansers and moisturizers. Toners and exfoliation ones are well known too but not many people use them as such.

The general classification of facial skin care products is based on the following:

* Gender (so there are facial skin care products for men and there are facial skin care products for women)
* Skin type (facial skin products for oily skin, facial skin care products for dry skin, facial skin care products for normal skin and facial skin care products for sensitive skin)
* Age (facial skin care products for old and facial skin care products for young)
* Skin disorder (i.e. facial skin care products for treatment of various skin orders like eczema, acne etc)

So that is your starting point for choosing a facial skin care product that suits you. A good way to start is by determining your skin type first. Also note that the skin type changes with age, so the facial skin product that suits you today, might not suit you forever and hence you need to constantly evaluate the effectiveness of your facial skin care product.

The facial skin care products are available in various forms i.e. creams, lotions, gels, masks etc, and a lot of people try to pit one against the other in their discussion on which form is best. However, one can’t really rate one form as better than another form. What suits you (and whatever you are comfortable with) is the best form of facial skin care product for you, really.

However, it’s important to note that these products work differently for different people. So the best thing is to try the facial skin care product on a small patch of skin (e.g. ear lobes) before actually going ahead and using it.

Another important consideration is the state of your skin. If you are suffering from a skin disorder of any kind, it is best to seek the advice of a dermatologist before you actually make your selection and start using a facial skin care product.

Once you have selected the facial skin care product for yourself, you also need to ensure that you use the facial skin care product in the right way i.e. follow correct procedures for application, use the correct quantity and make the facial product a part of your skin care routine.
